Description

The title draws inspiration from the words of the architect Mies van der Rohe who had a vision that artistic work could be produced with minimal resources. Although the Edinburgh organ has only 8 stops the CD demonstrates that, because of the instrument’s quality, integrity and disciplined design, it is capable of handling a wide range of music. The 23 tracks on the CD include music by Bach, Handel, and Mendelssohn, as well as contemporary British composers Malcolm Archer and Christopher Tambling. Several of the tracks focus on interpretations of two hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal – 216 “O he who trusts in God’s protection” (tune: Neumark) and 252 “O Word of God, most holy” (tune: Herzlich Thut Mich Verlangen).
